About this role

Not everyone wants - or can commit to - a full-time clinic post. Part-time sessional work lets you cover a set number of clinic hours each week at a partner clinic in Ipoh, while keeping the rest of your time for studies, family, or another role. For newer physiotherapists it is one of the most reliable ways to build supervised clinical hours in a real outpatient setting.

You treat patients in a clinic that already has the plinths, modalities and reception support in place. You focus on the clinical work; the clinic handles the space and the bookings.

What you would do

A typical outpatient caseload in Ipoh is mostly musculoskeletal: low back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, knee osteoarthritis, sports strains, and post-fracture rehabilitation. You would run assessments, deliver hands-on treatment and exercise therapy, and progress patients across a course of sessions.

  • Cover agreed weekly session slots at a partner clinic in Ipoh.
  • Assess, treat and progress a mostly musculoskeletal outpatient caseload.
  • Write up clinical notes and keep patient plans on track between visits.
  • Work alongside clinic staff who handle reception, bookings and equipment.

Who this suits

This role is ideal for fresh graduates who want to consolidate their skills, physiotherapists studying for further qualifications, and anyone returning to practice who wants a defined, predictable commitment rather than full-time hours. Because sessions are fixed and in one place, you always know where you need to be and when.

It also pairs well with the freelance home-visit role - some physiotherapists do a couple of fixed clinic sessions a week and top up with home visits around them.

Pay and arrangement

Sessional clinic work in the Ipoh area generally pays RM30-55 per hour, depending on your experience and the clinic. Slots are agreed in advance so both sides have a predictable schedule. You are paid for the hours you work, with no expectation of full-time availability.

These are indicative Perak-market figures; the exact rate and slot pattern are confirmed with the clinic when we introduce you.

Where you would work

Sessions are based in and around Ipoh, close to where most of our outpatient enquiries come from. If you are open to occasional cover in nearby towns, let us know and we will keep you in mind.

Frequently asked questions

Can fresh graduates apply?

Yes. Part-time sessional work is one of the best ways for new physiotherapists to build supervised clinical hours. You must be MAHPC-registered or in the process of registering.

How many sessions do I have to commit to?

It is flexible and agreed in advance. Some physiotherapists cover one or two sessions a week, others more. The point is a predictable, fixed commitment rather than full-time hours.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. Sessions run in a partner clinic that already has treatment plinths, modalities and reception support. You bring your clinical skills.

Can I combine this with home visits?

Yes. Many physiotherapists pair fixed clinic sessions with freelance home visits around them. Tell us if you want both and we will plan around your week.
